NBA Trade Deadline Winners

I’d be crazy not to use that picture right??

But seriously, yesterday went from 0 to 100 real quick. Sorry, Drake just dropped an album and I wanted to pay some sort of homage to him so there it is. Anyway, the NBA was bananas with all the trades that took place. I’m not really concerned with non-contending teams so I’ll focus on the two teams that I considered to be the “winners” of the trade deadline.

Don't Look Now But Here Come the Cavs

(Keep in mind I wrote this last Friday and the Cavs have played two more games since then going 1-1)

About a month ago, the Cavs were 19-20 after a loss to the Suns. No one was actually “writing them off” because you never do that when referring to a team that has the best basketball player in the world. People were definitely worried though and they had every right to be. LeBron was nursing a wrist injury and missed some games so it makes sense that they didn’t play well in those games. Even when LeBron played, they still looked bad. In the last 12 games though, they’ve cranked it up a notch and things aren’t looking good for the rest of the Eastern Conference.

The Sad, Sad State of the Los Angeles Lakers

It’s time. I didn’t want to do it but after watching last night’s game against the Heat, I have to address the state of the Lakers. I’m beating a dead horse but this team is so bad and things couldn’t be any worse for Laker fans.

As you know, I moved from Boston to San Diego last year. The local teams here are the Lakers and Clippers. When I was in Boston, I could only watch the Lakers when they were nationally televised. At first, I was stoked about moving and being able to watch my favorite team play every night. Sadly, things haven’t gone as expected. Well, technically, you could argue that things have gone exactly as expected.

Predicting the CFP Championship

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged so I figured I would shed some light on the last College Football game of the season. As you all know, it’s Buck vs. Duck. Oregon vs. Ohio State for all the marbles. Vegas currently has the line at Oregon -6 over Ohio State. I think that’s a pretty fair line. I do, however, see a ton of value and the play tonight seems pretty obvious.

I love Ohio State +6 here. I actually love them moneyline as well at +180 if you feel like living on the edge. I won’t get into too much detail but I will briefly explain why. The Buckeyes are simply on FIRE. They crushed Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game and beat up on the Crimson Tide two weeks ago. I had Bama in that game – as I’m sure the rest of America did as well -- and I refuse to get burned by the Buckeyes again. Maybe that’s my pride showing but the numbers indicate this should be a relatively close game. If Ohio State doesn’t win outright, they should still cover the spread.

Top 5 Point Guards in the NBA

Christmas is a great day for NBA fans. There is always a great slate of games and yesterday was no different. We got to watch: Wizards/Knicks, Thunder/Spurs, Cavaliers/Heat, Lakers/Bulls, and Warriors/Clippers. Each of these games featured a top tier point guard. As usual, the games sparked a lot of debate on social media. The main debate among fans, writers, and analysts was in regards to which point guards are the best in the NBA. Twitter doesn’t provide nearly enough characters and no one is interested in a Facebook status where you have to click “Continue Reading” so I figured I would throw in my two cents here.

Grading 2014 Forest Hills Drive

When I first started this blog a couple weeks ago, I did it with the intention of writing primarily about sports. As it turns out, I actually have a lot of other interests! What a surprise because it seems like I don’t do anything except watch, listen to, and read about sports 24/7. It’s good to know that sports haven’t completely taken over my life (yet).

With that being said, I’d like to talk a little about J. Cole’s new album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. It’s his third album and upon the first listen, potentially his worst. Before you call me a hater or tell me I don't know anything about music, hear me out first. I’m not saying that the album itself is bad, I just think Cole World: The Sideline Story and Born Sinner are better.

Serial is the Best Thing Since Cereal

Ok, so I lied in the title. Serial doesn't even begin to compare to real cereal. If I was forced to choose between a podcast and Fruity Pebbles, I’d pick Fruity Pebbles 101 times out of 100. Just thought I’d clear that up.

Once again, I’m fashionably late to a party. About 2 months late, to be exact. I tend to show up late to a lot of parties. I don't mean parties in the literal sense of the word. I'm actually referring to: movies, TV shows, books, and in this particular case, podcasts. The party/podcast that I showed up late to is called Serial. I would highly recommend subscribing to it for free on iTunes or streaming it online at http://serialpodcast.org/ (also free). People wouldn't stop talking about it on social media and I decided to finally give it a shot. So far, so good.
